Faith Michaels (16)
happiness, hindrance, horror
this is heaven?
his caramel glaze words
smother me,
they smile at us—
jealousy, green eyes.
this home’s a
mahogany coffin,
and i swallow
fistfuls of dirty purity.
this is earth?
water filling every crack,
stop crying! this is your fault!
you burned my wrists to ashes,
and i used them to shape you a shelter.
a radioactive heart, a tenacious lover,
vomit until you have nothing left
but love for him. we are an affluence
of poetic natural disasters.
this is hell.
the flames divulge in aching bones,
and your father’s pockets are filled with matches.
i cannot survive sixth degree burns.
crave relief in pouring crimson, stinging skin,
i offered you my soul for a drop of water
and you covered me in gasoline.
can your lies cleanse you from the fire?
they ask me, “why is your innocence in ashes?”
i say,
“because i have seen heaven, earth, and hell collide,
and he painted me white just to burn me alive.”
Faith is a sixteen year old Instagram poet found at the handle @sunflowermonsoon, better known as f.m.
