i inhale
i breathe in every last bit i can
of you, holding it in so long
it sears my lungs
i hold it in, hoping to remember
what you smell like after you go
you have been the best thing and
the worst simultaneously, and i didn’t
know someone could do that
until i met you
i exhale
and with it i let go everything
you are and what you did to me
it took me a long time to be able
to breathe without you but here i am
things seem clearer and aren’t as grey
my lungs feel lighter as if
i have new ones
i inhale
and i have never breathed
so easily
