Letter from the Editor
Welcome to Body Without Organs’s first issue, and thank you so much for finding us!
Body Without Organs’s name comes from a term coined by the French philosopher Gilles Deleuze, and he used it to reference this essential question: if you stripped an object of every physical trait it uses to define and communicate itself, what would be left? What is the “real” truth at the object’s core?
In this issue, our contributors aim to unwrap and unravel their physical forms until only their truths—however they define them—are left. Through this introspection and analysis, they uncover deeper realities of the world we live in and shed light on what it truly means to be a teenager.
Issue One alone includes writers and artists from Canada, Russia, Indonesia, India, Romania, The Netherlands, and the United States of America. It spans miles, both literally and figuratively. It connects teens and those interested in what teens have to say all around the globe, showcases voices that are too often undervalued, and covers an incredibly varied range of experiences that are all, at their essence, teen.
I hope you enjoy this collection of exemplary writing!
