Helena Dommer (17)
Parasols
My dearest waits for me by the door
Bright dress, boned lining, and long arms draped in flowers
I smile as I lace my shined shoes and button my day jacket
As I turn the lock of my door I reach out for her waist and pull her close
Bathed in sunlight, she stretches above me,
Arms wide open stretched out into the air
I walk softly, hand in pocket, arm around her waist, gazing up at her lovely colors
Her waist is sturdy among my tired body
The heat from the sun is shaded by her colorful dress
Sometimes she twirls, and the colors of her dress meld together into a rainbow
When we sit down to rest, she props herself up beside me, gazing forwards out into the green
I lie beside her, allowing her fabric to cocoon me like a baby
When I look up at her, I can see her embroidered flowers scattered this way and that
Shielding out everything but pinholes of the sun which caress her smile
I snuggle closer to her, the wind becoming stiller in her presence
