Elizabeth Duvall (17)
Queen of Hearts
That girl over there in the red, she is all in her head!
She has cherry lips, oh so sweet like a crisp
But she is haunted by those few who say to her, “Tsk, tsk”
She has a scarlet smile and dark eyelashes
But from underneath sleeves of her dress there are nothing but slashes
Over there, in the red!
Just earlier she gazed down into the ravaged riverbed
She is the Queen of Hearts, she used to glide through auburn light
How I wish they could understand, how badly she wishes to take flight
Angel energy and sweet cheeks, such a lovely pairing
The flecks of madness in her eyes are only slightly glaring
She stands alone in the doorway and watches her small world go by
Staring down a carefully crafted lioness with glass eyes
There are pompous chuckles and bubbling champagne
It reminds her of her queenly reign!
Much to do, much to see
And oh my heavens, she forgot about the church key!
She is the Queen of Hearts, the people love her so
Only if they knew how she wishes she could go
She was something both intimate and concrete
Quivering lips and faint traces of grace
She felt a steady hysteria, almost sweet
A kind of dreadful beauty, complete with lace
Sipping on the blood of her enemies, she feels one with the mass
Preventing her all the while from being whole at last
See that girl over there, in the red?
She is completely in her head!
She is always noticed, but never touched
Eyelids closed, fists clenched
She is the Queen of Hearts, eloquent and pristine
But how sad it is, that no one ever dares approach the Queen
Elizabeth Duvall is currently a Junior at Los Gatos High School and is hoping to pursue a career in the field of writing.
